PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – The teenage suspect in a drive-by shooting was taken into custody Tuesday hours after police swarmed a home near downtown Pueblo.
Officers had tracked the suspect to a house on Greenwood Street near 12th Street, using information about the car from the earlier shooting. The drive-by was reported near Jackson Street and Northern Avenue just after 5 a.m. Tuesday. No one was hit, but officers recovered several shell casings from the scene.
“Officers tried to talk him out,” Pueblo Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Frank Ortega said of what happened when law enforcement first pulled up at the Greenwood home. “He’s not coming out.”
Police first tried to reach the teen via bullhorn, and when announcements didn’t work, SWAT was activated. Ortega said SWAT was called due to the suspect’s prior weapons history.
Because the suspect is under 18, no further information was given on his background.
The suspect was eventually detained peacefully, as was a teenage girl also inside the home.
Police say the original suspect was already wanted on an unrelated warrant and was arrested at the home.
For now, the girl is just being questioned.
